Overview

The Amistad Reading Project is a no frills reading program designed to promote basic reading skills in children aged 7 through 10 years of age.

The Amistad Reading Project uses a phonics based approach to building reading skills. As well as utilizing certain aspects of the sight method of reading to reinforce reading skills.

The core elements we will use to teach reading to the selected students include Word Recognition,Word Study, Phonetics, and Vocabulary.

Randall Mosley

Randall MosleyAs the founder and Program Director of the Amistad Reading Program, Mr. Mosley is a seasoned professional with an extensive background in academic advising, classroom instruction, and social skills enhancement. He has over 24 years of experience in teaching, advising, and educational program development. Mr. Mosley has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Public Administration from Michigan State University and a Master’s in Technology Management from Eastern Michigan University. In addition, to his extensive education, he has worked in education in respected organizations such as Wayne State University, Ford Motor Company, and Ann Arbor Public Schools.

Jacqueline Conley

tutor1Our lead teacher, Jacqueline Conley, has long been involved in her mission to serve the community in ways that will improve language and literacy skills of children and adults who have a desire to read, write, and speak with confidence and success. She has vast experience in education from pro-literacy tutoring to child care administration. Ms. Conley’s background includes not only hands-on teaching and tutoring, but also administrative experience as a Head Start director and child care program administrator. Ms. Conely’s academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
